Happy Friday eve! It has been awhile since I have done a beauty/skin care post so I thought I would share a few items that I love to help prep and protect your skin for the sun. Sunny spring and summer days are right around the corner or already here if you live in a southern state like I do. I mean last weekend I was already lying by the pool reading a book! As I have gotten older I have realized the MAJOR importance of protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. If only my 16 year-old self would have listened to my 30 year-old self! I am by no means a skin care expert but these are items that I have done a lot of research on and find work well for skin protection AND anti-aging protection. Winner winner chicken dinner!
Prep your Skin:
For bikini season, we are all looking for smooth and exfoliated skin. I had heard of dry brushing and finally picked up this dry brush at a recent trip to Sephora and have so far loved the results. Dry brushing has multiple benefits including exfoliation, reduced appearance of cellulite, increased energy and blood flow and helps stimulate the lymph flow within the body, which helps the body detoxify itself naturally. Before I shower, I start at my ankles and work my way up my body in circular motions. The brush can be a little coarse but it is really not that uncomfortable on your skin. While I can’t claim it makes cellulite disappear, I can say that it has made my skin incredibly soft and a lot smoother. I would suggest grabbing one now to prep for swimsuit and shorts season!
Protect your Skin:
This moisturizer is my everyday wear moisturizer because it is one of the few I have found on the market that is not only affordable but also has an SPF 30 in it. I apply this on my face, neck and chest, if I’m wearing a tank top. It keeps my skin hydrated while the vitamins and antioxidants help reduce the look of age spots, minimize the appearance of pores, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Night Time Moisturizer:
After a day in the sun, your face always needs a little extra TLC. This moisturizer helps improve the appearance of your skin’s texture while helping to minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. It does not have an SPF in it so I opt to use during the evening or anytime I know I’m just going to be hanging around the house.
I am a HUGE IT Cosmetics fan and this CC cream has become one of my holy grail products. I have never been one who loves to wear a ton of foundation because I feel like it always looked caked onto my face. I love this CC cream because it gives me just the right amount of coverage but it also lightweight and perfect for a hot day. This CC Cream also has high concentration of physical sunscreen, SPF 50! A physical sunscreen sits on top of your skin and protects from damaging rays by reflecting or scattering light away from skin, much like a mirror or aluminum foil. This is a KEY component that you need to be wearing in all sunscreen of your foundation/CC cream. I seriously can’t even say enough good things about this product. Pictured here is the travel size but I also have the full size bottle, it just didn’t look very pretty for pictures!
Obviously sunscreen is going to be the number one important item to help protect your skin from the sun. As I mentioned above, you need sunscreen that is a physical blocker such as Zinc Oxide. Zinc Oxide has the ability to block both UVA rays and shorter-wave UVB rays. In fact, zinc oxide is the only sun-filtering agent (physical or chemical) that can provide such broad-spectrum protection. I have done a lot of research on sunscreen since I had some microdermabrasion done on my face a few years back, which made my skin very sensitive to the sun. This sunscreen not only has an SPF of 50 and is water-resistant but has 9% Zinc Oxide, which is the highest I’ve seen in a non-prescribed sunscreen.
Did you know that your hands and your neck are one of the first places to show aging due to sun damage? When I heard this, I started making sure when I was at the pool or beach to make sure I applied sunscreen to those areas. That got me thinking, what about sun protection for my hands on an everyday basis? Even driving, your hands are exposed to the sun and it is something you don’t normally think about. I found this lotion on a random trip to Sephora and thought I would try it out. It Protects, moisturizes, brightens and improves your skin plus has a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 40. I have found that it is not greasy and keeps my hands feeling soft yet protected from the harmful UV rays.
